General Motors’ ESG score is a measure of the company’s performance along three important areas – Environment, Social and Governance. This score is calculated by assessing the company’s sustainability efforts and corporate social responsibility achievements.
Environment: How well has GM managed its environmental impact? The evaluation considers how much pollution comes from GM’s manufacturing process, how energy-efficient its vehicles are, and whether it sources materials sustainably.
Social: Does GM provide fair wages, promote diversity and inclusivity, or assist communities affected by disasters? This evaluation reviews the company’s policies on ethical practices such as human rights and labor standards as well as nonprofit partnerships.
Governance: Evaluates codes of conduct, risk management practices to protect shareholder interests, transparency in financial statements reporting, quality control in executive leadership succession planning.
General Motors’ ESG score uses both qualitative and quantitative metrics from various sources such as S&P Global Ratings , MSCI Ratings , ISS Ratings etc., to measure performance with respect to ESG standards.
Each individual metric is given its own weight when calculating an overall score that reflects the best sustainability practices of a corporation. These scores then inform stakeholders’ decisions of investing (or not) in a particular company due to its commitment to positive long-term outcomes for society overall.
