General Motors is one of the largest automobile manufacturers in the world. It was founded in 1908 and headquartered in Detroit, Michigan. The company is currently owned by the French multinational automaker Renault, which acquired it from Cerberus Capital Management in 2010. In 2014, GM had revenues of $108 billion and employed approximately 400,000 people worldwide.

Chevrolet was first introduced in 1911 by William Durant, who purchased the assets of several defunct American automakers and reorganized them under the name Chevrolet Motor Co.. He later renamed his business the Chevrolet Division of General Motors in 1926. The original logo featured a stylized “G” inside a circle. This symbol became so well known that it eventually replaced the “D” in the word “Chevy”.
Chevrolet’s current corporate headquarters are located at One Renaissance Center in downtown Detroit. The building opened in December 2012.

After World War II, GM continued to grow. In 1950, GM hired William C. Durant Jr., who would become the CEO of the company. He would lead GM until 1956. Then, he retired and died in 1959. His son, Alfred P. Sloan Jr., took over as the new president of the company. He served until 1963.
During the 1960s, GM was still growing. In 1964, GM bought out Chrysler Corporation. This was another big change for GM. At first, there were two CEOs, but eventually, just one. In 1966, GM acquired Rambler Automotive Inc., and renamed them Oldsmobile division. In 1968, GM purchased Hughes Aircraft Company, renaming it Aerojet General Corp.
By 1970, GM had grown even bigger. In 1971, GM moved their headquarters from Detroit to New York City. Also in 1972, GM entered the Japanese market. In 1973, GM bought AM General, renaming it Delphi Automotive Systems. In 1974, GM bought MCA Incorporated.
